I had an IT Band Release this morning down in Provo. Matt was my surgeon and he went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and informed. There was a lot of scar tissue covering the bursa under the IT attachment to the knee there. He also had to shave down the bone just a little bit where the IT band crosses over. This should help the band glide more smoothly over the bone there. I'm in a straight-leg brace for a week and then can resume weight bearing as tolerable.

8 weeks is the most likely timeline before I can resume running. I am very happy to get this done. I was sick of being in an eternal running purgatory of always thinking I was healing and never would. I had lost complete faith it was ever going to heal. At least now I can see some light at the end of the tunnel. This year has been a loss, but I look forward to training this fall and hoping for a bright 2015! Thanks for everyone's support and comments of encouragement you've given me over the last four months. And I especially have to thank Matt, he's truly been there for me through it all and has been not only professional but has really gone far beyond what you'd expect a doctor to do for you.

Perhaps not a total loss with the showing in Phoenix but it has been disappointing to see you sidelined by this for so long. I wish you a speedy and successful rehab. I am sure the Ogden Crew can't wait!

That Dr. Matt is the finest Doc/Surgeon one could ask for.

Here's to a safe and speedy recovery Riley. I'm sure you were in great hands with Matt at the helm. Looking forward to seeing you back on the roads soon doing what you do best and laying down smoke'n fast times. And congrats on the new baby you and Amy have coming!

Best wishes, Riley. It sounds like you guys located the issue and solved it. Aerobic builder Tuesday will be back in full swing before you know it!

This has most definitely been a tough setback.. But definitely only a temporary one, all that background training doesn't go away overnight as I'm sure you are well aware of. Hang tough Riley.

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate all the support. I'm certainly counting down the time to when I can join y'all back out on the roads again.

Riley, sorry it came to this. Don't count this year as a loss. You ran a really sick marathon down in Phoenix and finally figured out the GI stuff. As someone who lost 18 months to a long term illness, I can tell you that you can make it back faster than ever before. Stay smart and listen to your body. I'm looking forward to seeing how fast you can get in the future.
