4 miles easy with Denver from my parents' house, avg pace 7:21. There was a light rain, but it wasn't too bad and still in the 40s. We finished up with some abs, hip exercises, and pushups.

Do you think your knee pain may have originated in the hip?

From RileyCook on Sat, Dec 13, 2014 at 10:49:08 from 73.52.134.194

I think weak hips contribute to IT Band Syndrome. Or rather I think strong hips can help alleviate some of the IT Band tightness. If I had stronger hips before my IT Band Syndrome, who knows, maybe I could've avoided such a long lay-off and surgery.

Good to see you back running Riley. I am not sure if you consider glutes part of your hips but I think a big reason why I got ITBS a couple of times is because of glute weakness and/or inactivity.

It's not just quads and hip flexors that take up the slack. As Cheever found, levers and pulleys all the way down the leg can be affected. IT band soreness, pain in the front of the knee, and tight calves may be signs of compensation for nonfiring glutes. An athlete complaining of anterior knee pain whose knee collapses inward (knock-kneed) is a prime candidate, Rakow says. "Glutes are the rotator cuff of the pelvis, so when they're not firing, the femur rotates inward instead of swinging straight forward."
